The Dance Psychology Lab carries out research and consultancy activities to better understand dance, and people who engage in dance, from a psychological and scientific perspective.

Research & Consultancy

Research

Our research is based around five broad research questions:

1. What are the health benefits of engaging in recreational dance?

2. How do we communicate emotion through dance?

3. What are the psychological consequences of engaging in dance training?

4. What is the relationship between our hormonal and genetic make up and the way we dance?

5. How does dance change the way we think?

Consultancy

We work with clients to develop and administer assessment programmes to measure the effectiveness of dance-based interventions.
Who are we?

The Dance Psychology Lab consists of academic psychologists, dancers, dance teachers, choreographers and artists. We believe that to understand dance and people who engage in dance from a psychological perspective we must approach our research questions from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
